You only need thin strips of paper to make these heart shapes for hanging.

Another easy paper craft for children, and perfect for Valentines day decorations! You just need some string, a stapler and strips of paper – any width or length is fine – as long as you have two pieces the same length.

Tie a knot in one end of the string and staple it between two pieces of paper. I was trying to work out how to explain on which side you should place the knot, the best I can put it is to have the knot sitting on the edge of the paper – read the next step and hopefully it makes sense

Bend the two pieces of paper away from the staple and staple them together again where they meet as pictured. The heart will now hang from the string, as long as the knot is sitting on the correct side of the staple.

I wanted to keep the craft as simple as possible, but if your children want to try another step, you can also make them with multiple strips of paper on each heart.

One of the much loved paper crafts for children – easy to do and always effective. We have lots of fun experimenting with lots and lots of shapes, not just snowflakes!

Snowflake Cut Outs may not be the correct term for this paper craft, but it is what I have always thought of this technique as. A heart is not the usual shape for this technique but if you have a valentine craft in mind then this is a super quick and easy one AND it makes a beautiful card.

Start with the heart shape and fold it in half – cut little shapes out of that fold. Unfold it and make another fold on one side of the heart – cut little shapes out of that fold and repeat on the other side. See if you can squeeze another row in on each side like we have!

Find a contrasting color for a card to give your heart maximum impact. These are such fun, and so easy to make that you will need to find lots of valentines to give them to so you can make lots.

Simple materials are used to make this effective and arty paper craft for Valentines Day.

We cut out a heart shape from some cardboard and then just experimented with different colors of crayons, different colors of paper and different colors of dye. These crayoned outlines were made by crayoning back and forth around the edge of the heart. You could also just trace around and around the shape. Then paint in, around or all over the shape with some paper dyes, food coloring or runny paint. The crayon will resist the liquid and give the lovely contrasts you see here. It is a lot of fun deciding what combinations to try. Then you can make a lot of cards for all those Valentines! I quite like them as a group though, so perhaps I could make just one large card for just one Valentine!!
