Chicken Pop-up Card
April 14th, 2010 by Craftylocks

Chickens moving into the yard and onto paper crafts for children!

hensHow exciting, new members of the family – clucky egg laying ones! We have six hen scratching in a nice new hen house in our orchard. The wonderful plan is that the children will look after them and sell surplus eggs for pocket money. The reality is that the cost of the hen house and all the food will mean that for each egg they sell will cost the parents equivalent to four eggs! But it has been entertaining, so far they have been fed about 5 times each day and checked for eggs every half hour. And when I wanted to cook with eggs I actually got some from my MIL next door (who we got the hens from) rather than use the ones the children have been saving up to sell.

bird-card_stepSo to celebrate we made a pop up chicken card. The children found the joke and drew the chicken for the front of the card. We have not decided who this card is for but now that we have practiced this bird/mouth pop-up technique we will be using it lots. The image to the right shows the pop-up mouth part way through making the card – it shows how it works really well.

The joke reads “What do you call a chicken who crosses the road, rolls in the mud, and crosses back again?A dirty double crosser!
